UoN Lecturers and  Staff undergo PhD Supervision Training by CARTA

Staff members of the University of Nairobi, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Business and Management Science (Group Two) participated in a PhD supervisors workshop, that took place between 25th-27th February 2025 at the University Towers. The event brought together faculty members, supervisors, and key academic leaders to discuss best practices in PhD supervision, mentorship, and research excellence. This workshop is the second in a series of faculty-based PhD supervision enhancement initiatives organized by the University with support from CARTA.  A total of 130 PhD supervisors from the two faculties were trained.

Key highlights of the 3-day engagement include discussions on: - Supervision frameworks & best Practices: Recruitment, supervision styles, and formal supervision terms, ensuring structured and effective PhD mentorship.

Challenges and Solutions in Supervision:

Problems that arise in supervision include unfair supervision, the process of detachment, and the emotional aspects of the relationship between a supervisor and an employee being supervised.
