University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama announced that the University will hold its 63rd graduation ceremony virtually on the 25th September 2020 amidst the Covid-19 pandemic that has crippled social gatherings. All students qualified for PhDs, Masters, Bachelors, Diplomas and fellowships will graduate. The University of Nairobi Chief Medical Officer has issued an Infection, Prevention and Control Measures in readiness for the 63rd graduation ceremony.
The COVID-19 Pandemic is quickly fast-tracking many sectors. The possibility of sitting for exams virtually is here with us. Were it not for the pandemic, we would have taken longer to imagine of online examinations. However, the truth of the proverb: ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’ is unfolding right in front of our eyes, due to the virus that is currently ravaging the world.
The University of Nairobi is position 10 in Africa according to the latest released July 2020 Webometrics Ranking.
The ranking web of universities places UoN at position 1 in the East African region and 956 in the world. In the four parameters considered in this ranking, the UoN is position 198 in the presence rank, 1075 in impact, 749 in the openness rank and 1602 in excellence. The Ranking Web or Webometrics is the largest academic ranking of higher education institutions.
The University Library's VIRTUAL open week is underway from today, 23rd to 25th June 2020 . This event is strictly for Staff and Students of the University of Nairobi.
Prof. Stephen Kiama has been installed as the 8th Vice Chancellor, University of Nairobi. Prof. Kiama, a professor of Veterinary Anatomy will serve as the institution’s Vice Chancellor for a 5 term until 2025. The Installation ceremony held on Friday, June 5, 2020 was unique in that it was the 1st virtual installation ceremony since the inception of the University.

The Context:
Following the Senate resolutions that all teaching & learning be migrated to online platforms in the face of Covid-19 pandemic, the following platforms are approved for use in teaching and learning:

The University of Nairobi suspended Face–to-face learning on March 16th 2020 following a presidential directive to close all learning institutions to contain the spread of Corona Virus.
