University of Nairobi participated in the 55TH International Literacy Day on 28th September 2021. The World literacy day is celebrated in the month of September Globally. This years theme was “Literacy for a Human- Centered Recovery: Narrowing the Digital Divide” Kiswahili version “Kujinusuru Dhidi ya Majanga Kupitia Masomo ya Kidijitali Kwa Wote”.  

The University of Nairobi held its 65th Graduation Ceremony on Friday 24th September 2021. 4,205 students were awarded certificates; 1 Higher Doctorate Degree, 79 PhD Degrees, 378 Masters, 17 postgraduate diplomas, 3,459 Bachelors and 271 Diplomas. 36.7 % of the graduands were females while 63.3% were male.

UoN Alumni Association Scholarship Fund is a program that provides University Scholarships and Mentorship to academically gifted but financially disadvantaged students undertaking their undergraduate courses at the University of Nairobi Students.  

The Fund has supported over 3000 needy and bright students to meet their educational needs since the University of Nairobi Alumni Association was launched in 2005. The fund does not cater for the full cost of University requirements in an academic year hence awardees are advised to explore other ways for more funding. 

The College of Education and External Studies (CEES) is celebrating the University of Nairobi's 50th Anniversary! The University launched the #UONat50 campaign (1970-2020) to celebrate 50 years of academic excellence. As part of the campaign, CEES organized a Community outreach activity at the HGM Primary and Secondary Kinoo Schools in Kiambu County on Thursday 24th June 2021.

Anniversaries are well worth celebrating, the management, faculty, staff, and students at the College of Education and External Studies held a 2-day virtual event to celebrate the University of Nairobi golden jubilee (1970-2020). The University mounted a year-long campaign to celebrate 50 years of academic excellence and take stock of the successes and milestones achieved since 1970 to date (#UoN@50).

The College of Education and External Studies will host a 2 day virtual event on Thursday 24th June and Friday 25th June 2021 to celebrate the University of Nairobi 50 year Anniversary.

One of the most exciting events in the University calendar is the Annual Sports Day. On this day staff and students from across all Colleges compete in various sporting activities and socialize. This year, the University of Nairobi held the annual Sports day on Friday June 18 2021 at the University Sports Ground. The theme of this year’s annual Sports Day is “Staying safe and healthy through sports.”

Students from the College of Education and External Studies joined the world in observing the World Environment Day on 5th June 2021. The theme of this year’s World Environment Day is "Ecosystem Restoration". The Students planted more than 200 tree seedlings at the Kikuyu Campus compound.

Teachers are key to improving quality education in any educational system. It is often said that the quality of an educational system cannot be greater than the quality of its teachers. Currently with the reforms in Education in Kenya, stakeholders in the education sector have different views on how initial teacher development should be offered in Universities.
